On July 6, 1966, Gene Buckley fulfilled his desire to serve his community by opening the garage doors for the first time. He drew on his experience in automotive repair earned during his championship racing days, and on the business skills he’d sharpened as a regional manager for the Firestone Tire & Rubber Company. He quickly established a thriving local business.
Gene Buckley never rested on his accomplishments. He continually improved his automotive skills and made sure every customer walked away feeling respected and heard. He poured himself into his customers and his community, earning recognition from major oil-company honors for outstanding achievement to formal accolades as a community leader.
From 1966 through the summer of 2006, we operated from our original location on Maryland Avenue. When the right opportunity came along, we moved our business, family, and team to a new home at 1604 E Newport Pike. The new location offers more than five service bays, a half-acre lot, and easy access from I-95 — making it convenient for drivers across Newport, Elsmere, Pike Creek, Hockessin, New Castle, Newark, and Wilmington.
Years later, we expanded south, opening our Millsboro location to bring the same family-owned, family-run Buckley’s standard to Sussex County. Today, the shop is led by Greg Buckley — carrying on his father’s mission with the same care, the same honesty, and the same belief that doing right by people is what makes a business last.
